On the Road: Day 4
September 11th, 2008After sending out our 13 teams on a ridiculously hot day last week, the roadies are officially out there. And for the last few days, we’ve been receiving nothing but hilarious and inspiring stories from them.
Read on for an update from Mid-Atlantic at Briarcrest High School in Memphis, TN.
From Adam Litchfield:
“We just had the most amazing day at Briarcrest High School! We had a flawless screening, with a bangin sound system, 600 kids, classroom visits every period, won over a principal who was very hesitant yesterday, basically everyone at the school was eating Invisible Children like fat kids at a buffet! There were two lunch periods, and they were the most insane merch sale sessions ever- there was money flying towards us, and we were swiping like 9 credit cards at a time! The boxes of bracelets were disintegrating in front of our eyes - During that lunch period mostly, and then more throughout the day we made a killing- brace yourself…..$3,633.70!!!! I just got done counting it all- it took quite a while!
“It was the most amazing and encouraging experience- these kids were hearing about IC for the first time, and in the classrooms they were asking such great questions. Afterwards we had a s4s meeting and about 5 min before it started, I convinced Marybeth Russell (who is awesome) and Olivia that we need to do something soon- So we are going to walk for 8 hours on Saturday at this sweet park, and everyone is getting sponsored- I have a really good feeling about what this school can do. I think they want to take this competition seriously- It’s going to be sick!”
Thanks, Adam. And thanks to everyone at Briarcrest…that’s really incredible.

Whoo, go Adam! Just a year and a half ago, my school was Braircrest, and Adam’s mom the lady who brought the IC roadies to our school. Now look who is a roadie! It’s great to imagine for a moment all of the roadies, interns, and people on fire for northern Uganda that just might come out of this Memphis school!
