The IC Soundtrack

May 16th, 2008

We know, we know - it’s been awhile. Thanks for all the feedback from the last IC Soundtrack entry. We’ll try to make it more regular. If you have a request for music used, leave it in the comments and we’ll get to it, promise.

Based on the last Soundtrack post, we’ve had requests about the music used in Black is for Sunday: The Story of a Displaced Child.

Two of the featured song are Sparta’s “Erase It Again” and Switchfoot’s “American Dream.”

The Biggest Online Dance Battle

May 1st, 2008

Looking for some Invisible Children trivia? We’ve got it.

Before Jason Russell went to Uganda with Bobby, Laren, and a video-camera, he studied film at USC. While there, he became friends with Jon Chu (director of Step Up 2 the Streets), and they continue to work together through their own careers. Last summer, Jason was assisting him on-set, while Jon directed his first feature-length film. In return, Jon has constantly been there for IC film shoots to help out where needed.

And now, Miley Cyrus is threatening to defame his good name. In an ongoing dance battle, hailed as the Web’s biggest ever, Jon’s crew is battling back and forth with Miley’s. The latest installment has Jon rocking an IC Dove t-shirt as he brings the heat to Lil’ Miss Hannah Montana.

Breakin’ 2: Electric Gulu

April 8th, 2008

From skatin’ to breakin’, organizations are popping up all over Uganda to provide activities for the youth of a region seeing the prospect of peace for the first time in over 20 years. The Daily Monitor recently broke down how Break Dance Project Uganda “influences young people positively.” The work is being done all around the country. Naturally, we sought out any videos we could find of northern Ugandan kids breakdancing. After coming upon their YouTube page, we found one we thought we’d share with you…

The IC Soundtrack

March 14th, 2008

Being asked which music is used in our videos is a common question at screenings, on MySpace, in emails, etc. In an attempt to quell all of that, we’ll start posting entries after media is released giving you all the information you could ask for regarding who sings what and where you can find out more about them.Earlier this week, the Tri video came out and the band in the background is The National, a rock band out of Brooklyn kicking off an international tour at the end of April. Fake Empire is the song and you can listen to it, along with more of their songs, by clicking here.

Pangea Day

February 5th, 2008

First off, let’s introduce “We Recommend,” a new category we’ll be filtering news into. It’s pretty simple: if we have something non-IC related to show you, we’ll put it here. Books, music, movies, etc., we want to give you a taste of our tastes.

For our inaugural post, we’re recommending an event and it’s called Pangea Day, a live videoconference taking place around the world on May 10th, 2008. Organized by acclaimed documentary filmmaker and TED award winner Jehane Noujaim, Pangea Day “taps the power of film to strengthen tolerance and compassion while uniting millions of people to build a better future.” A 4-hour program of “powerful films, visionary speakers, and uplifting music” will be streamed to the Internet, television, digital cinemas, and mobile phones.

Up until February 15th, they’ll be accepting short films to be featured throughout the event. Check out the website for more details.
