Unlike any other initiative at Invisible Children, our big events have a way of bringing it all together. They simultaneously appeal to our government, educate our supporters, and join a community of like-minded people dedicated to making a difference. Through power in numbers and strength in community, we hope to shed light on situations that merit attention and inspire action that changes culture, policy, and lives. Take a moment to read about how the youth of America have rallied together to use their voice for change.

Displace Me

In April 2007 we hosted our second nationwide event where more than 68,000 individuals gathered in 15 cities across the United States to experience for one night what it was like to be displaced. They left their homes, left their comforts, and displaced themselves for the displaced in northern Uganda.

Created to be an experiential event, Displace Me used storytelling to personalize a tragedy largely unknown to the international community, creatively bringing awareness to the emergency situation of the displaced. The voices of the participants were heard and actions were seen by national media, congressmen, and even the White House. Thanks in part to these committed and compassionate individuals, long overdue peace is finally on the horizon.

Global Night Commute (GNC)

On April 28, 2006, more than 80,000 people took a stand by lying down. With Global Night Commute locations in 126 cities across the United States, people walked for miles to their city centers and slept in the streets to make a visual call to end night commuting in northern Uganda. The Global Night Commute was labeled one of the biggest U.S. demonstrations for Africa to date, and less than a year after the event took place, the large majority of children in the North stopped commuting to their city centers.
