On April 28, 2006, more than 80,000 people took a stand by lying down. With Global Night Commute locations in 126 cities across the United States, people walked for miles to their city centers and slept in the streets to make a visual call to end night commuting in northern Uganda. The Global Night Commute was labeled one of the biggest U.S. demonstrations for Africa to date, and less than a year after the event took place, the large majority of children in the North stopped commuting to their city centers.
