SPRING 2010 - LEGACY TOUR

Jolly's Dream

Before our 9th tour was even finished, Jolly Okot wrote us a letter from our offices in Gulu, Uganda. Jolly is the Country Director of our entire Ugandan operation. Here, in her words, she explains the challenges of Invisible Children’s growing programs in Uganda and her dream for an American tour of unparalleled authenticity:

Jollys Letter

And so, the idea was born. In talking with Jolly, we realized that this idea could be expanded to include many more of the remarkable individuals we’ve featured in our films. Many of the kids are 18-20 now, and have benefitted from the scholarship programs, mentors, and campaigns for years. They have powerful stories to tell.

Of course, bringing young Ugandans to America for a 10 week tour is not easy, and not something to take lightly. These young people have never been on a plane. Most have never seen the ocean. So, Jolly spearheaded the interview and screening process to see who was best fit to cross the Atlantic to advocate for Northern Uganda. The Ugandans jumped at the opportunity to tell their stories, and to meet these people that have supported them, fought for them, and cared for them from a world away.

Now, you can attend a screening, watch our films and hear directly from the heroes who have overcome unimaginable odds to help bring peace, justice and hope to the people of Northern Uganda.

Jolly’s long-term vision for Invisible Children saw an authentic tour of survivors of this war. She knew it was going to take something real, something big to bring this dream of peace to the ear of America.

The Legacy Tour is that big answer.
