I think the film is an inspiration to youth that they CAN change the world no matter their age, talents, or level of education.
Before I was exposed to the documentary I felt the Lords calling in my life to pursue missions or some kind of nonprofit organization in order to offer my gifts to underpriviledged people worldwide. I then saw the film at Passion '06. Since this time, the story has invaded my mind and really "messed" with me. The film has literally opend my eyes and I am thankful. I think the film is an inspiration to youth that they CAN change the world no matter their age, talents, or level of education. Just take that step.
Inspiration has been commitment, need, responsibility, duty. resolution, awareness, action, money, and so much more
" Do not let them look down on you because you are young. . . ."
After seeing the film I was burdened to do anything I could do to bring the story to my friends, school, and state. I bought the DVD and sent one to a friend in ATL. I told my small group I had a video that I wanted to show them, so one evening I brought it to smal group, which is a collection of childhood/college friends plus special guests: friend's husband and his two friends. We watched and I was moved to tears agian. After watching no one really said anything. I don't think they had ever been exposed to anything so raw. Even though we come from a small town of world travelers, a seminary, a Christian college, several mission organization headquarters, and seven churches, I think they really didn't know what to say. However, silence was broken when one friend exclaimed to another, "Oh my gosh! You got braces!" I felt as though my heart had been run over and spat on. From this statement you might think we are a bunch of middle or high schoolers. We're not! We're college graduates. We have family members who were or are currently serving people in other parts of the world. I couldn't beleive how unsocially aware or concerned these girls were. Though this was a less than possitive reaction, I did not lose my desire to "do my part" although I did drop the ball for a while.
I have helped secure a screening at my church and I am promoting GNC to my small group. Luckily, they are intersted.
Because I think about the "situation" in Uganda ALL the TIME, I am seeking to use my education in Health Promotion in a way to serve people in extreme need for food, health, safety, education, security . . . . No matter where my degree takes me I just want to help people. It would be my DREAM to one day work with IC and help bring security and health to the children and nation of Uganda as well as all people in Africa. If the oppurtunity arose it would be difficult for me not to drop everyting and leave right to join the movement. However, I have one more year left in my Master's program and graduate assistanship.
I visit the website daily to read updates and you don't understand (or maybe you do) the physiological anxiety that stirs in my soul. If I can't physically be involved with your organization I will never forget or stop taking action wherever I am.
